Can somebody please explain to me what the poet is trying to tell us
Hello, I have a few complications with understanding this quote, so I was wondering if somebody could explain to me what the poet is trying to say :)
For God’s sake, let us be men
not monkeys minding machines
or sitting with our tails curled
while the machine amuses us, the radio or film or gramophone.
Monkeys with a bland grin on our faces.”

I dont understand why D.H. Lawrence is comparing us to monkeys? hmm
I really wish somebody could explain to me what the poet is trying to tell us.

I dont understand why D.H. Lawrence is comparing us to monkeys?...
I'm not familiar D. H Lawrence's work or of any poet for that matter but I get the impression that he's frustrated; that men are no longer men but monkeys. I think what I'm trying to say is that we are all so caught up in our daily lives that we are no longer truly living. But then again I could be wrong.
