Ju-jitsu is a martial arts invented and used by the Samurais. (Samurai means “server”. They were warriors like the knights. They also had to protect the poor and week, but when their missions failed they had to save their honor by making suicide. They existed from the eight century to 1800.) Ju-jitsu means mild- tactic in Japanese. Ju-jitsu contains Judo (where you are throwing each other and fight on the floor), karate (where you are using stroke and kick) and Aikido (where you are making elegant moves and use the enemies energy and not your own). Karate first came in Ju-jitsu later.
There are also other kinds of ju-jitsu; Nin-jitsu and Jiu-jitsu. Nin-jitsu was used by the Ninjas (the ninjas are another kind of warriors, or more spies because they were moving in complete silence and were experts in disguising). Jiu-jitsu was used by the monks in the mountains so they could protect themselves from robbers. The reason they used Jiu-jitsu was that they were not allowed to carry weapons.

They started using Ju-jitsu in Denmark in 1971. It was the anti terrorism corps who needed some self defense tactics. Then they began to use it as a spare time sport. The children can start at ju-jitsu when they are down to three years old- of course with help from their parents. The costumes consists by a white kimono and a pair of white pants. And the belt. the belts show how experienced you are. First comes the white belt (the beginner), the yellow belt, orange, green, blue, brown, end then the black. When you got the black belt you can only get other black belts. You are getting the new belt by going trough a test where you have to show tactics.
The clubs are using some of the old traditions; Before we step in the hall, we must bow. Before the training starts we must welcome each other by sitting on
our knees (shoulder to shoulder) in a line. The experienced are sitting in the front and the new one are sitting in the end. We are sitting in front of our trainers. Then the trainer says “Mokuzo” it means close your eyes and relax. Then the experienced student says “kamaqu sen sei rei” it means open your eyes and bow. Then we are bowing and say “Muzz” then we are standing up.
