Decoration of the body goes far back in time. The human has always loves to decorate themselves, at different ways.
Piercings began in the early sixties in the U.S and have spreads all around the western world. After the Second World War, tattoos became more common than piercings and one linking them usually with sailors and soldiers.
Many girls get ears pierced already as child almost all over the world.
Tattoos have also become more popular specials among men.

What are body decorations?
Body decorations are art made on the human body. The most common forms of body decorations are tattoos and body piercings, but other types include scarification, scalpelling, full body tattoo and body painting.
Piercings and tattoos have never been as popular as they are today. For less than 50 years ago, piercings and tattoos were not as common as they are today.
It is especially tattoos, one can see everywhere. Actors like Anders W. Berthelsen, musicians as Mary J. Blige and Eminem, and other famous people like Prince Frederick, Camilla Andersen and Johnny Bredahl all have tattoos.
It may be harder to detect piercings because they often are hidden under the clothes, but you just have to walk down one of the main strokes in London, New York or Copenhagen to see different types of piercings in the nose, navel, eyebrow and tongue

Tattoos.
When tattooing, to make a clear pattern in the skin. It is made by that ink dots through the skin and into the leather skin. Leather skin does not change much during your life and does not decompose, so tattoos are permanent.
Today it is usually done by using an electrically powered machine that pushes a needle up and down, and it goes through the skin every time it goes down and then sprays a small amount of ink into the skin.
Most people's tattoos have a special significance for them and it does that every tattoo is a personal expression.

Piercing.
Piercing means through wrestling. When one piercer, presses, a sharp object into your skin and lets it come out somewhere else. One can pierce almost anywhere on the body. Nose, eyebrows, cheeks, nipples, navel, lips, tongue, and intimate places are now pierced.

(Scarification is a category within extreme body art. Scarification is done with very sharp knives that are specially made for Scarification)
(Scalpelling is, get a hole made larger, for example in the ear.)

Why body decorations?
The prices of pierces and tattoos are very much depends on size, decorate and what colours. For example a piercing in the nipple cost 500 and a piercing in the ear cost 100 Danish crones.
But although it is expensive, it is still in to get one ore more tattoos and piercings. But why?
It is to look different and stand out. Or maybe to get attentions. Or it is only because one thinks it is great art. Of course is there someone there get a little fish at the ankle because they think it is beautiful, and that have I nothing against. On the other side I think it is okay. But for the most people doing it to get more attention, confidence and be different and stand out from others. Some get almost the entire body tattooed and pierced. I think that it too much and are completely unnatural and they does it only to get attentions and hide ones true self.
Some are also competitive in how many tattoos and piercing they can have. Some people get made too or a piercing in error. For example after a crazy part where you’re still drunk. (So it is often ones friends who get persuaded to have made a tattoo or a piercing. And the day after you can nothing remember and regret it. If you want to remove a tattoo, there are many different ways, by laser or chemical operations. If the tattoo not is too big. Some people get tattoos because they're in a gang where all the members have full body tattoos. Many will be pierced in order to decorate the body, perhaps also to operate crude, or to demonstrate that they can endure some pain.
People have always felt the urge to decorate themselves in one way or another.
Tattoos and temporary livery has been common in many cultures, either to decorate themselves as a part of culture or to have a particularly dangerous in battle. Decorations could be plain or garishmulti-colored; they could pose great decorations or be tiny shapes and sizes. Especially in the Arab world and India is the art of jewellery body paint.

The consequences.
If you get a tattoo or a piercing you need to take the risk, there is for the different consequences that can not be completely avoided no matter how big your tattoo is, or where on the body you get a piercing. Some of them could be infection and allergy. The fact is that almost half of the substances used in tattooing are not evaluated for cosmetic use.
Hygiene is also very important.
There are also other consequences; some jobs will not hire people with visible piercings and tattoos.
It may well become a problem for some to get a job if they are tattooed for head to toe.
When you meet a person with a big tattoo at his back, you would prejudices about the person being somewhat sceptical, and I would feel uneasy about the person. Because we humans are slightly insecure and uncertain about something new and unusual.

So whether you think that piercings and tattoos are art or fashion, they have been here long and they are here to stay.
Think how you feel about before you let your body decorate.

My attitude.
I have nothing against getting tattoos and simple piercings. I have five holes in my ear and a navel piercing. But I do not think it is nice to have the entire body tattooed and pierced the body.
I will not have tattoos, I might it is nice now but in old age would it be ugly and not special sexy.
