Essay - Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was one of the greatest Civil Rights leaders. He is best known as a non-violent leader rather than Malcolm X which I also will discuss in this paper. I really think that Martin Luther King differs from Malcolm X mostly because of his death. He lost his life trying to better the rights of African-Americans, though he was a non-violent activist. On October 14, 1964, Martin Luther King received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence. The episode with Rosa Parks, who denies giving her seat to another, was a great moment among of other things King led the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The famous speech “I have a Dream” is written by King which also was an inspiration to much of the African-Americans. The speech was written just after the episode with Rosa Parks. I personally think that without Martin Luther King’s willpower and active efforts it would be hard to break the barrier between whites and African-American, and I also think that the way he did was perfect. Malcolm X was also a great and important person, but the only thing that I do not like is that he used violent means to break the barrier. Malcolm X was an African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist. Actually the big question is did Malcolm X became such a prominent activist because the death of his father. It is said that white racists were responsible for his death, and because white racists used violent against his father is it therefor he used violent against white as revenge.
