This paper examines the definition of the American dream and how the development has been since 1963, where Martin Luther King hold his speech at Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C in front of thousands of people in the United States. He was dreaming of a country with civil rights and freedom for all. The paper gives an analyze of Martin Luther King's speech "I have a dream" and Barack Obama's speech "Reclaiming the American dream" with the use of the appeal forms, logos, ethos and pathos and how they argument for their case. In addition to that the paper also gives a view on how King and Obama experienced the American dream and what they want it to become. The paper gives an assessment of the importance in King's speech and how Obama is inspired by King's determination to make a change for the Afro-American citizens. They are still not free citizens in the United States, but there has been some changes
