Abstract:

The study investigates the civil rights movement and the Ku Klux Klan’s, position in the American society in the years of 1950’s and 1960’s. For more than 100 years, the African American population have been under massive oppression from the Klan and the white population. However, when the civil rights movement was founded the African American population obtain hope on getting rid of the desegregation in the American society. The study will start with an account of the founding of the civil rights movement and the Ku Klux Klan’s. Hereafter will the speech by Malcolm X be rhetorically analyzes, thereafter the songs Cajun K-K-K and Quit your Bitchin’ Nigger by the southern country singer Johnny Rebel be analyzed, hereafter the laws of Jim Crow will be critically analyzed. At last, there will appear a discussion of the civil right movement progress in 1960’s. Based on Malcolm X’s speech it can be concluded that the voting rights can be resolved peacefully or violently. It can also be concluded that the songs expresses that even though the African American population earned their rights, the white race will still be the dominant compared to the African American race.
