Abstract

The study puts its focus on the family in the late modern society. The focus is especially set on the family expressed by a novel, and the changes in the family structure and the constitution of the identity, since the traditional society until today. To get an expression of a family in the late modern society, it was necessary to do an analysis and interpretation of the novel. This study investigates postures to the late modern society expressed by chosen sociologists. From the novels point of view there is discovered a connection between the sociologists and how the society has developed. As a conclusion, the study discovers the meaning of the changes in the family structure and the constitution of the identity. The individual after the industrialisation has become freer. Today the meaning of standards and values depends of the individuals identity, which the individual has the liberty and possibilities for creating itself, without the inheritance plays the biggest role.
