 This study investigates the many aspects of the roman-catholic church with Graham Greenes novel “Monsignor Quixote” as a starting point. The study also focuses on certain factors which may contribute to a discussion about the role of catholicism as a religion and institution. The main focus is (enten focus point eller focus is on) how Graham presents the conflict between belief and doubt, and how the main character Father Quixote deals with his frustrations in the search for his own identity, by discussing religious themes with his companion, the Major. The humanistic method’s main focus is on the analysis and interpretation part of the main characters' personalities, the novel’s composition and relation to chivalric tales. This study also examines the author’s feelings towards to the catholic church. The results of this investigation are that Graham Greene used his literature as a way to describe his own view on the many aspects within the belief (vil mene at du skal bruge religion istdtf. belief, men ikke 100% sikker). It is concluded that the novel has many messages of a more or less religious character. One of them could be (brug is her) how having doubt in faith can unite two persons with very different beliefs. The novel also shows how the hatred of a person perishes when death occurs, while the love for a person lives and grows through grief, in spite of the final separation.
