Au pair in England
The English middle class has gotten a bad repetition, if you should believe in one report, which recently is been published. One organization, which is called International Youth Welfare and London University, has made the report together, of material which is collected from questionnaire, posted to ca. 1500 au pair girls in different parts of England. Three quarters of schemes was returned, and showed some unpleasant facts about how young girls, who come to England to learn the language is treated.
There is often a big difference between what the young girls are told before they travel and the way they are treated by their host families in England.  A big number says, that they just earn £9 a week, which they work ca. 50 hours a week, and a lot of them do not eat with the family and do not get enough food.
The chairman for International Youth Welfare, Dorn Placid, which is a monk, himself, came to England for 20 years ago and lives there still. He, as well as other in organization, believes in that it is important, that the situation for au pair girls is known, so the bad conditions can be improved.
