Young camp-goers with smiles on their faces despite difficult conditions
ADHD, asylum cases and handicapped siblings are among the daily challenges for the 1100 children, who on Friday will participate at Red Cross Youth ‘17 summer camps across the country. Mr Carsten has even had a hard upbringing himself and as a child he had been to Red Cross Youth’s holiday camps, but today he is at the holiday camp as a voluntary leader.
Hundreds of volunteers will from Friday on take warmly against 1100 holiday kids, who all have difficult conditions in everyday life. This happen whenRed Cross Youth’ 17 holiday camps offer children rafting, role playing, fun, games and – not least– new friendships for vulnerable children and young people throughout the country.
”Children have made their self-confidence and will have a much-needed break from their everyday lives. And we are living high to see young camp-goers with a large smile on their lip”, says the holiday camp manager Mr Carsten.
Carsten himself grew up in a family with great challenges and has in the past as an 8-year-old been a participant at a holiday camp. Now he has another role as a holiday camp manager at camp where participating good 100 children and volunteers. Some of the children come from asylum centers and many have a life marked by poverty, bullying or other social, physical or mental challenges.
”Many of the children end up as volunteers themselves, which we see as a sign that the projects in Red Cross Youth improve everyday life for the children and young people, we help,” says chairman of the country Mads Espersen..
In addition to the holiday camps, the many volunteers  in Red Cross Youth make activities for vulnerable children and young people in hospitals, in prisons, on crisis centers, in socially vulnerable residential areas and in other areas throughout the country.
