hej.. håber virkelig nogle kan hjælpe m en rettelse af min stil (2.del) på forhånd tak

I think it is important to find out why these young people kill. There are not, in my opinion, just one thing you can point out as the main reason to this problem. A lot of reasons does matter. As the article ‘Why Young Kill’ explains, there is a biological argument: This article claims that it is a mixture of an abnormal brain (high activity in the brain and low activity in the prefrontal cortex) and a bad environment that creates a young killer. These children have often been victims of abuse in their early years and exposed by stress, terror, neglect or head injuries (especially this leads to a damaged prefrontal cortex) And it is when these kind of “damaged” children are having problems at school and at home, becomes a part of a gang, abuse alcohol and drugs (or weapon!) that there is a chance of becoming a killer.
But according to an other article ‘Do Parents Know Their Children?’ the problem is actually that the youngsters feel lonely and do not get enough attention from their parents: “Every kid I talked to at length eventually came around to saying without my asking that they wished they had more adults in their lives, especially their parents. (...) Loneliness creates an emotional vacuum that is filled by an intense peer culture, a critical buffer against kids fear of isolation.” (p.51, ) The same article also claims that, when the youngsters do not get the needed attention, “(...)they cling to cliques or immerse themselves in a universe out of their parents’ reach, a world defined by computer games, TV and movies, where brutality is so common(...)” (p.48)
This is seen in the case of Harris and Klebold; they did not fit in with the other children. At home, I think, they, though they had supportive parents, felt lonesome and could not talk with their parents about this because it is a defeat to tell that you do not fit in with the “normal” children. Therefor they both became a member of the ‘Trench coat Mafia’ where they did fit in. The two of them also became obsessed with violent games and, later on, with weapons and the hate against the “bad children who teased them” All this frustration and hate, they had inside – like every young killer that kills his classmates has – made them go as far as they went. At this point, I think, it was already too late to intervene. If you want to prevent school shootings, I believe, you have to start changing the whole system, -starting with the media. I agree with Michael Moore in the fact that all the violence and murder youngster see on the television, make the young people believe, it is okay to carry weapons and, if they feel they are in danger, to protect themselves by shooting. All this ‘buy-a weapon-and-protect-yourself-campaign’ has got out of hand, because these weapons mostly get in the wrong hands, - the hands of unstable youngsters that cannot control their anger and are not afraid to use these weapons. Another place you could intervene is the school. I think the teachers should try to talk with the children about this ‘school shooting’-problem and, especially, try to abolish the hierarchy, as far as it is possible, because it would prevent that a lot of young children get teased and feel outside because of the fact that they are in the bottom of the hierarchy (mostly caused by their, not too pretty or different, outside). Moreover the parents have to play a great part in the lives of their children - even though it is difficult with the system US has, where the only chance to survive for lower class is for the parent(s) to have more than one job which results that there are not any time left to take care of their children! - This is also a reason to change the society into a society that would help the lower class.
Today in Denmark, these kind of serious problems are not seen –yet! In Denmark we do not have the same ‘buy-a weapon-and-protect-yourself-campaign’ as in USA and we moreover have a safety-net that prevents extreme poverty in the country. But when it goes to the media, violence and death has become a greater part of the media in Denmark. The newest example is where a young, Italian, tourist got stacked in the middle of the street. – For what reason?! I fear that all this fear the media creates would create a ‘culture of fear’ as in US, which maybe could lead to school shooting. The police in Denmark would reluctantly receive a call like this from a teacher in school: “The school is in panic and I’m in the library, (...) I’ve got students down. Kids, under the table! ... Oh God! Oh God! Kids, just stay down Do we know where he’s at? I’m in the library. He’s upstairs. He’s right outside of here.”
Therefor we all must intervene before it is to late... We must prevent an easy access to weapon, all the violence in the media, and try to keep a good safety-net (which, by the way, are not getting any better with the government that now is sitting on top in Denmark), so that the parents have the time (and money) to take care of their children!
