Atmosphere

"The atmosphere of a story is basically the general feeling of the characters. Usually, a ton of dialogue between characters hint at a lighthearted or less intense atmosphere. The biggest giveaway is the way the author describes surroundings without dialogue. If people, objects, or events are described in a dark tone with many negative expressions, the story probably has an ominous tone. If the author uses imagery to express colors, objects, and people in a positive, happy tone, then the story is most likely cheerful, dreamy, or romantic. 
Also, the atmosphere in a section of the story may be tense or suspenseful. You can spot the intensity by looking for shortened statements and lines or phrases that repeat."

Så ja, det de små "cues" forfatteren efterlader i sin fortælling, beskrivelser af omgivelserne samt karaktererne. Ikke så meget følelser som du nævner, men helæt klart historiens "stemning". Atmosfæren vil ofte skifte fra sted til sted. Fx vil atmosfæren i et mørk gadehjørne midt på natten være anderledes end en hyggelig familiefrokost. Giver god mening :P
