The short story is about a young boy, Richard. He has left Cambridge to celebrate his nineteenth birthday with his mother and stepfather on the coast. In the beginning we hear that the boy is standing on the balcony, and hears his mothers and stepfathers discussing. Later in the story there is a flashback about the boys’ part of his grandmothers’ life. She lived in Tennessee, on a pig farm. She had always a wish to see the Atlantic, but hers husband don’t like it. But one Sunday the grandmother and hers husband leaved the farm and went to the coast, but the grandmother had only one hour to spend at the Atlantic, because hers man cant leave the farm in a long time.
Richard misses his grandmother, he thought about her and about all what she had told him about her life. When his parents divorced, she was the one that took care of him.
Later on when Richard, his mother and stepfather were in the restaurant, the millionaire starts criticizing homosexuals and being ironic. The boy went to the beach, while he walking, he thought again off his grandmother, and that he will never get marring. He took of his clothes and swimming to wash the evening away, and to feel clean, but he instead drowned.
