The short story was written by Richard Russo and was published in 2003.In this story we hear about the problems that take place when aggressive and violent behaviours and unhappiness in a relationship develops into horrible.

The short story”The Farther You Go” is told from Hank’s point of view. Hank is the main character, he is 50 years old, and he lives in Connecticut, in the United State of America. He has a wife called Faye and his daughter is called Julie. Julie is married with Russell. The impression we receive of Hank is that he has control of his life, and tries to behold the control, it shows clearly when he doesn’t wants to talks about his or the others feelings. He is sick and getting old.
Julie tries to have the same relationship to her husband like her parents’, than she creates an abnormal relationship and breaks her marriage.
Julie’s relationship to her father Hank is very strange, she idolize her father and makes her father a represent for her husband Russell. But Hank is not the perfects man with her wife. He has been unfaithful, and maybe he will be the same again if he finds a special woman. By the way Julie idolizes her father that makes him thinks if she actually sees him as a man and if she doesn’t, than can she sees her self as a woman. It is very important for Hank, because if she doesn’t see him as a man, than is his relationship to women are diminutive and meaningless.

Julie and Russell’s marriage didn’t exist in a long time, because the both wanted different things in life. Julie wants the same things like her parent have for example a house etc. But her husband wants to have another things and way of living. He wants a more lively life full off events and much more. Their marriage has bee very limited for Russell. Throughout these dissimilarities are the reasons why Russell hits Julie and treats her in a bad way. Hank is on Russell’s site and not with his daughter and her limiters for her husband. Actually because her thoughts about to have a marriage as her parents, it makes her has loosed her marriage.

Hank and Russell have some things in common. Faye and Julie have the same character, and their houses are also the “same”, it is what Julie wants. The difference between them is in which way they choose to live and to handle the conflicting desires. Russell has chooses to behave in a particular way also he just wants to follow his instincts. But Hank had lost some of his character, and it is the reason why Julie doesn’t see her father as a man. Later on in the story we get the impression that the relationship between Russell and Hank is not great and they haven’t the great feelings for each other. The relation ship between them is just as friends, for example they shake hands.
At the end Hank realizes and mentions that Russell doesn’t have to go back to his and Julie’s house because he wants to help Russell, and I think it is a positive step. It shows the reader that Hank has realized that it is some lack in his life and character.

The title,” The Farther You Go”, indicates very important things for example that if the person doesn’t wants have to loose than the person have to do it when there is time for it. Hank hadn’t done that, but Russell did. And another example is that Hank didn’t tell Faye about his infidelity or about other problems. The long times of keeping a secret more Hank have to loose if to tell it.
The themes in the story are about relationships and how and what the people want to do with the things life gives them. Russell wants to make Julie as happy as her mother, and Hank wants Russell’s opportunity to be in the past that is not far away but both of them realized that past is past and no one could change it or “visit” it again. And they have to learn from their mistakes.

The short story was written by Richard Russo and was published in 2003.In this story we hear about the problems that take place in a relationship when aggressive and violent behaviour (jeg mener ikke der skal s på behaviour) and unhappiness(jeg ville bruge misfortune, hvis der er tale om personlig ulykke) developes into horrible. (mangler der et ord efter horrible? Sætningen slutter lidt brat)

The short story ”The Farther You Go” is told from Hank’s point of view. Hank is the main character, he is 50 years old, and he lives in Connecticut, in the United State of America. He has a wife, Faye, and a daughter, Julie. Julie is married with Russell. The impression we receive of Hank is that he is in control of his life, and tries to keep the control. It is shown clearly when he doesn’t want to talk about his or other peoples feelings. He is sick and getting old.
Julie tries to have the same relationship to her husband like her parents’, then she creates an abnormal relationship and breaks her marriage. (her magler jeg lidt den danske oversættelse...sætningen er i hvert fald ikke helt god...)
Julie’s relationship to her father is very strange, she idolizes her father and makes her father a representative (skal der stå repræsentant?) for her husband Russell. But Hank is not the perfect man with his own wife. He has been unfaithful, and maybe he will be it again if he finds a special woman. It is by the way Julie idolizes her father that makes him think about if she actually sees him as a man and if she doesn’t, than (?? - evt. "then how") can she sees herself as a woman. It is very important to Hank, because if she doesn’t see him as a man, then is his relationship to women diminutive and meaningless.

Julie's and Russell’s marriage didn’t last for a long time, because they both wanted different things in life. Julie wants the same things as her parent have, a house etc. But her husband wants to have other things and another way of living. He wants a more lively life, full of events and much more. Their marriage has been very limiting (begrænsende?) for Russell. Throughout these dissimilarities are the reasons why Russell hits Julie and treats her in a bad way(kan man true på en god måde ;) ). Hank is on Russell’s side and on his daughter's and her limits for her husband. Actually because her thoughts about having a marriage like her parents, it makes her loose her own marriage.

Hank and Russell have some things in common. Faye and Julie have the same character, and their houses are also the “same”, it is what Julie wants. The difference between them (er det Hank & Russell eller Faye & Julie??) is in the way they choose to live and to handle their conflicting desires. Russell has choosen to behave in a particular way. Also he just wants to follow his instincts. But Hank has lost some of his character, and it is the reason why Julie doesn’t see her father as a man. Later on in the story we get the impression that the relationship between Russell and Hank is not great (eller "very good) and they don't have the greatest feelings for each other. The relationship between them is just friendly, for example they shake hands.
At the end Hank realizes (hvad indser han? evt. "this") and mentions that Russell doesn’t have to go back to his and Julie’s house because he wants to help Russell, and I think it is a positive step. It shows the reader that Hank has realized that there is a lack in his life and character.

The title,” The Farther You Go”, indicates very important things. For example if a person doesn’t want to have to loose that(hvilket? "something"), the person has to do (something about) it when there is time for it. Hank didn't do that, but Russell did. Another example is that Hank didn’t tell Faye about his infidelity or other problems. The long time of keeping a secret more Hank have to loose if to tell it (giver ikke umiddelbart mening, men "The longer Hank keeps the secret the more he loose).
The themes in the story are relationships and how and what people want to do with the things life gives them. Russell wants to make Julie as happy as her mother.

generelt er dine sætninger utrolig lange, og selve referatet giver ikke megen mening, hvis man ikke har læst novellen. Men ellers er der (efter min mening :) )ikke flere store fejl. Hist og her ville jeg da vælge andre ord eller formuleringer....
