Joan
Dear Mary
It was surely disappointing to visit London again after so many years. I am sure
London today is competing with Rome being the most boring capital of Europe.
You might wonder, things has gone so far, considering the fact that London was the centre of the world in the swinging 60’ies – think about Carnaby Street
and the Rolling Stones. There is no doubt about that the famous English Sunday, which is the boredom itself, has spread to the other days of the week. Now you say
that it is Sunday every day in London.
I am disappointed about the fact that it is no longer possible to get a good cop of tea or a proper meal.
The reason is that you have to be lucky to find a “right”
English restaurant. But it is off cause nice that the traditional English pub still exists.
As tourist you might be surprised by the fact that there this time is just as dirty in the Tube as the last time. There is apparently no reason to make sure that dirt and rubbish are being removed. Despite that the Tube transports several millions of people to and from work every day it does not seem to have been modernized since the war. I am pretty sure that the Tube is one of the most uncomfortable and worn-down in the world.
It was a shock to revisit the old elegant districts like Kensington.
They are nu invaded by people from the Middle East. The house facades are cracking up, the (gesimserne?) are falling down and through the uncurtained windows you spot the Arabs, lying on mattresses while smoking and palavering from morning till evening and all through the night.
Well, no more pessimistic considerations about London - I am looking forward to
visiting you

It surely (was) disappointing to visit London again after so many years. I am sure
London today (competed with Rome) is the most boring capital of Europe.
You might wonder, things (have) gone so far, considering the fact that London was the centre of the world in the swinging 60’ies – think (of) Carnaby Street
and the Rolling Stones. There is no doubt about that the famous English Sunday, which is the boredom itself, has spread to the other days of the week. Now you say
that it is Sunday every day in London.

As (a) tourist you might be surprised by the fact that this time (there) is just as dirty in the Tube as (was the fact) the last time. There is apparently no reason to make sure that dirt and rubbish are being removed. They are (now being invaded) by people from the Middle East. The house facades are cracking up, the (cornices) are falling down and through the windows (with there blinds up) you spot the Arabs, lying on mattresses while smoking and palavering from morning till evening and all through the night.
Well, no more pessimistic considerations about London - I am looking forward to
