The Ballot or the Bullet is not like an allegory, in this speak Malcolm X applies directly to his audience. The afro-Americans the neglected part of America. Dreadful situations often leave to drastic actions. The audience the speech has been given to is already an isolated part of the society. But even though they are segregated form the community they still feel like they are exploited from the white part of America. Malcolm x request his audience to use Black Nationalism in order to develop the black society and create black unity. He asks Afro-Americans to operate in ways that challenge the expectations of the dominant culture.
In a sense he is disagreeing with martin Luther kings statement: I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Malcolm X wants black and white people to be equal, but his black nationalism also means anti-assimilation from the rest of the society. Malcolm x does not want blacks to be integrated in the white mans society, in his conviction afro Americans need to develop their own society in order to gain success. Blacks need to create their own business and to vote for black politicians.
