This paper examines the equal rights between men and women throughout time, and whether the women have been placed on an equal footing as men. At first it was necessary to look at how the women’s position on the labour market have been since the 1960´s and what reasons the women had to tear themselves away from the role as a housewife and participating actively on the labour market. Afterwards it was necessary to have a discussion about whether legislation can give complete(ly) equal rights in Denmark, but also to have a look at the different sides of the legislation and how the equal rights are today. The main purpose is to enlighten and get a wider insight in how women’s positions in the home, on the labour market and in politics have changed since the 18’Th century. The results shows that women and men still doesn’t have equal rights, but since the 18’Th century and till today, there have been a massive development on both the labour market and in the political life, but when it comes to the women’s role in the house, we are still behind.
The women still have, to a certain degree, the role as the housewife who cleans and cooks, but at the same time a career to take care of. The women therefore still have a hectic double life as opposed to most men. Therefore legislation could be a place to start to get completely equal rights between men and women.
