Jeg har skrevet i spansk og historie om den spanske novelle Fresa y Chocolate:
Abstract:
This paper analyses Fresa y Chocolate, a Cuban short story and film. The story is about David, the young communist, who develops a deep relationship to the homosexual man Diego.
This paper especially examines the two main characters David and Diego and the development of their relationship. The paper contains a report on the history and the political structure on Cuba after World War II. Cuba is a communist, and only the communist party is allowed. It implies strong censorship and discrimination against, among others minorities, homosexuals and religious people.
The attitude towards the homosexuals and other minorities, both cultural and political, are described in this paper, and related to how the attitude is shown in the story. At the time when the short story is set out to take place there are many prejudices against homosexuals. This attitude towards the homosexuals has a great impact on the relationship between David and Diego. The differences between the short story and the film, and the impact these differences has, are being analyzed in this paper.
The paper also contains an interpretation of the themes and message in the story. The message of Fresa y Chocolate is tolerance towards other, and acceptance of people there are different.
The development in the attitude towards homosexuals are being examined, and the paper ends with a discussion of why Cuba today is far ahead of it neighbour country, when it comes to pass laws, giving the homosexuals far-reaching rights. The discussion mainly focuses on Cuba’s relationship towards religion, compared to its neighbour countries, and the catholic attitude towards homosexuality.
