It’s probably only Peeping Tom, who can claim that he has seen Lady Godiva ride naked through the streets of Coventry.
The history was first real known hundred years’ later Lady Godivas dead in 1067.
It’s like the idea about the pious beauty, who rode naked through the city has haunted of the English fantasies ever since.
When it’s so long time ago it is difficult to know what Lady Godiva really did, in order to her name could be remembered in more than 900 years.
Lay Godiva was married to Earl Leofric and she was considered to be wise, religious and charitable
Leofric was not so popular among the citizens as his wife, because he didn’t share her gentleness neither her charity. When he needed large sums of money, he heavily taxed the inhabitants in Coventry.
When Lady Godiva requested her man to not to do it, he responded that - in accordance with the myth, which perhaps not was far away from the truth- that he didn’t want end the severe taxation, before she rode naked through Coventry on the fair day- because he was positive about that the virtuous woman never will do that.

Her en rettelse..

It’s probably only Peeping Tom, who can claim to have seen Lady Godiva ride naked through the streets of Coventry.
But the story became familiar hundred years later, after Lady Godiva’s death, in 1067.
It is as the thought of the pious beauty who rode naked through the city has haunted the English imagination ever since.
Since it is so long ago it is difficult to know what exactly Lady Godiva did in order for her name to be remembered for more than 900 years.
Lay Godiva was married to Earl Leofric and she was considered to be wise, religious and charitable
Leofric was not as liked among the citizens as his wife because he did not share her gentleness nor her charity. When he needed large sums of money he heavily taxed the inhabitants in Coventry.
When Lady Godiva requested from her husband not to do it he responded - in accordance with the myth, which perhaps may not be as far from the truth- that he would not end the severe taxation until she rode naked through Coventry on the fair day- as he was positive that the virtuous woman never would do it.

Hejsa!
Velbekom :)

It is probably only Peeping Tom, who can claim having seen Lady Godiva ride through the streets of Coventry naked.
The history was not really known until a hundred years after Lady Godivas death in 1067.
It is as if the idea about the pious beauty, who rode through the city naked has haunted in the English fantasy ever since.
When it is so long ago, it is difficult to know what Lady Godiva really did, so that her name could be remembered in more than 900 years.
Lady Godiva was married to Earl Leofric and she became distinguished to be wise, religious and charitable.
Leofric was not so popular among the citizens as his wife, because he did not share her gentleness or charity. When he needed large sums of money, he taxed the inhabitants in Coventry heavily.
When Lady Godiva asked her man not to do it, he responded - in accordance to the myth, which is perhaps not far away from the truth - that he would not remove the heavy taxation, before she had ridden naked through Coventry on the fair day - for he was sure that the virtuous woman would never do that.
