2. We don’t learn the real name of the main character, only a nickname Spencer has for her: ‘Miss Lulu’. She is a young female from London, who always has a witty answer and ‘cracks’ jokes. That is really all we directly get to know about her. In the quote “Here I was in New York City, shopping like Carrie” she compares herself to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex & The City, and it also seems as if she’s aiming at becoming like her. Spencer, her male friend, seems homosexual, and could seem a little like ‘Stanford’, Carrie’s gay male friend in Sex & The City. It seems as though she’s trying to be something she isn’t, like for instance buying the Manolo boots, and then not actually wearing them; As though she only bought them because they were Manolos and she was in New York. She and Spencer think of themselves as being everything but dull, and she is spontaneous and a fan of excitement, like when she walks up to Charlie in the restaurant. She denies that Charlie isn’t like them, until he criticizes her boots; the boots that she loves but has never worn, and pulls out only designer clothes from his closet. There she sees that apparently designer clothes aren’t everything, and his perfect appearance can’t make up for the differences they lack in their personality.
