The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Sad and touching story about the friendship between German Bruno and Jewish Shmuel during Second World War.
The nine-year Bruno lives in Berlin during the Second World War. Bruno don’t know much about the war and lives in blissful ignorance, although his father is high ranking soldier close to Hitler.
One day get the family an important guest, when The Fury comes to dinner. Bruno's father is promoted, and the whole family must leave Berlin and moved to a camp which Bruno called “Outsider”.
In “Outsider” is everything different. From his room, Bruno can see a fence with a lot of people, who wear the same striped pyjamas’. No one talks about the fenced people, but Bruno knows that the camp is forbidden territory, and he feels lonely in “Outsider”.
On a forbidden exploration in the garden Bruno comes down to the fence, and there he meets Shmuel. Shmuel lives on the another side of the fence, he and Bruno meet several times and telling stories from their life. Bruno thinks that their lives are very similar. They have both been forced to move, and they have both lost their friends. But Shmuel has an advantage; there are a lot of children on his side, that he can play with. Shmuel is lucky, thinks Bruno.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a fantastic and unforgettable book. It is Bruno’s experience of the war, who was being told, and that is a very naïve and monotonous portrayal.
