Ernest Hemmingway - essay

I will start with the poem ”The old man at the bridge”. This poem is during a war. It is about a very old man, who is sitting at a bridge and looks how everybody cross the bridge, past the old man and further in the life. So you can see that one of the biggest themes is death. It is very clear to see that the old man who is dirty and grey symbolize death. He can not go further. He is just sitting there. Perhaps he hopes that the bridge will be bombed, and this way he will die. The opposite of death is life. Life is an other theme in this poem . The bridge is a symbol of life. Lot of people cross the bridge. Maybi they run away from the war and hope for better times with a long life without soldiers and bombs. If you go deeper at the poem, you will see some other themes which is bonded with the two other themes. I think that peace and fridom also are very important topics because everyone, the man, the people and the country look for peace and freedom. I thin that they want to be a free human again.

I will (begin instead of start) with the poem ”The old man at the bridge”. This poem is during a war.

It is about a very old man, who is sitting at a bridge and looks (either: "who sits at a bridge and looks" or who is sitting at a bridge, looking" at the people crossing the bridge) past the old man and further in life ( without "the" because it is a subject like Nature or society).

It is very clear to see that the old man who is dirty and grey symbolize death (remember a "s" in symbolizes).

The bridge is a symbol of life. (A lot) of people cross the bridge. Maybi (is spelled maybe) they run away from the war and hope for better times with a long life without soldiers and bombs.

If you go deeper at (into instead of at) the poem, you will see some other themes which is bonded with (to istead of with) the two other themes. I think that peace and fredom are (har byttet om på ordstillingen med are) also very important topics because everyone, the man, the people and the country look for peace and freedom.
