Abstract:
The study examines how we today have a longer and healthier live than before. In the population as a whole, living conditions and health status has improved considerably. This change to the better will continue over the coming decades. Statistics shows the average age will increase from 36,7 in the beginning of the eighties to 40,3 in the year 2010. Forecasts shows it will continue rising to about 44 in the middle of the next century (2050). In average will one out of three inhabitants in Denmark will be over 60. Further more, 10 percent of the population will be over 80 years old or older and one out of four Danes will be retired in 2050.
The paper will also give an account of the consequences it will have on the society. For example, a lesser part of the population will be in engaged in production and a lesser part of the population will pay for the increase in the dependency ratio.
Furthermore, the paper discusses two main opinions on the future development of the Danish society. These two alternatives scenarios are presented by Velfærdskommissionen and Professor Jørgen Goul Andersen. In brief, Velfærdskommissionen is of the opinion that an increasing in the labour force, changes in pension benefits and increase pension age are the key factors to change. On the other hand, it is shown that Professor Goul Andersen sees no reason for great concerns. He believes that people can be motivated by benefits rather than force.
A number of different alternatives has also been discussed. Examples are tax increases, increased pension age, private pension funds but also decreases in public spending.
The conclusion of this study is, that the way forward is a matter of model chosen, the residual or the universal model but also social, economical and political aspects.
However, the big conclusion to the question on how to provide services while containing costs might be different but certainly not an age quake. Could it be the usage of robots to care for the elderly generation or are we still going to use people complemented by emigrants as labour enforcement?

jeg er nu også usikker på, om det er det rigtige indhold, men det er selvfølgelig svært for andre end mine lære at dømme..
