det ville være en stor hjælp tak

1. Give an outline of the various attitudes to the show Boys and Girls Alone expressed in text 1 and text 2.
Boys and Girls Alone is a reality show which was broadcasted in 2009 on channel 4, and is also one of those shows which has received amount of criticism. Andrew Mackenzie who is the head executive of the Factual Entertainment for Channel 4 answers back, and points to the fact that the reality show wasn’t there to harm the 8-11 year-old, but the fact to give some kind of an impression to their parents, of how the children were going to behave without the parents. Mr. Mackenzie sees an entertaining possibility of children making their own rules and so on. Although as said it wasn’t everybody who had the same argues as Andrew Mackenzie. There have been some people out there, who weren’t so pleasant about the fact of small children being published like that on National television (line 8 p. 2). Andrew Mackenzie has therefore come out with an official announcement, saying that the show was broadcasted in safe environments which means that there of course was created a 24 hours protection for the children, and that there every single moment during the show, was thought about the children’s welfare as a 1.priority. Andrew Mackenzie also wants to reveal that the entire parent’s response to the show has had a positively attitude for the show, but also to all the executives who have had an impact on making the show safer for the children.
Dr Richard House who is a Lecturer in Psychotherapy on Roehampton University wasn’t so pleasant about the idea of putting little children on broadcasted TV. He comes to the fact that to put some little innocent young children on TV is nothing else than child cruelty (line 26 p.3). His argue is that no matter how safe the environments were for those children, Mr. Mackenzie has made his point, no ‘expert’ on this planet can be 100 % positive of what is going through the children’s minds during the show (line 35 p.3). He therefore concludes that the kids were only used as experimental animals to increase the popularity of entertainment. (Line 44 p. 3)
Audrey, who is a mother to one of the participants of the show, couldn’t see any harm what so ever in putting her child TJ Scott on the show. She knew what was going on there, and she knew all about the safe environments the children were put up to. She was pretty happy when she heard that the children would be put under surveillance 24/7 in the house. Audrey is now pretty proud of her son, because he was so responsible at the show and showed such great leader skills, which she never could have expected from him (line 23 p.4). She is now calmer of knowing how her son will copy without father and mother being there. This has given not just Audrey but also the other parents another perspective about their own children’s behave.

2. Analyse how James Donaghy builds his argumentation in text 3. Illustrate your answer with quotations from the text.
‘When lab rat TV goes too far’ is what James Donaghy thinks about the fact of small children being used for some social experiment. This isn’t the first time the word ‘social experiment’ is being used when it comes to broadcasting reality shows. James Donaghy refers to some other reality shows from the past which have had their good and awkward moments. Mr. Donaghy wants to give the viewers a reference of the not so good sides the show adduces. (Line 14 p.5) is an example of just some things the parents ignores. Children at that age are born to bully each other and so they do, but what the viewers are watching is only some good entertainment for themselves. His main criticism is therefore going straight for the parents. Why would they give their children permission to attend a show like that? ‘Participants know that reality television steals a part of their soul at every single humiliation they are subject to’ (line 33 p.6). James Donaghy is on this point exactly questioning about the parents ability to raise their children, because the participants are some small innocent children who don’t know anything about public humiliation, and they have therefore no position in what so ever to give their informed consent. Therefore it’s nobody else fault than their parents who are attending their children to the show.
At the end Mr. Donaghy wants to conclude that the participants on the show aren’t really the lab rats, but those who are watching the show are lab rats. ‘You think you’re the observer when you’re really the rat’ (line 39 p. 6). He therefore doesn’t understand why people do watch these kinds of ridiculous entertainment shows. For James Donaghy it’s just funny and stupid combined together.

3. Discuss under what circumstances it is appropriate to let children appear in reality shows.
If we look at the fact of children being allowed to participate on reality shows should be a possibility, then I think most people including me will don’t allow this to happen under any circumstances. The word ‘child abusing’ comes to me when I think of this. We fight so hard nowadays to protect children from that sort of things, and now this has come. I mean, is reality shows really a medicine for all children who are going to difficult times, I rather just raise my child properly than attending him/she doing these sort of things. In the show ‘Boys and Girls Alone we see a perfect example of what the circumstances are for the parents to attend their children to the show. A mother speaks about how her daughter Lorna was picked on at school for her hair color and so on (line 21 p.5). I mean, is this really the parents way to help their poor little child from being bullied at school. At this point right here, I really doubt on the parent’s ability to raise their children properly.
Although it’s also very important to consider which kind of reality shows we can attend our kids to. You therefore have to consider if the show actually could do some purpose for the child, and in what way could it hurt them. We have to think about how it will affect them later on and maybe do damage to them. I mean reality shows can really put life in a whole other perspective. There is for example ‘Paradise Hotel’ which is just ridiculous. I really like to point out what kind of purpose there is of putting a show like that on TV in front of millions of teenagers, and children. I mean, what will they think about life when they see the participants on the hotel do nothing else than get drunk, have sex and be a victim of public humiliation, I mean what kind of role models are they for younger children these days.
It isn’t to consider at all, putting some children in front of a camera just to give them confidence. There is a reason why the word ‘parenting’ has been used for the last 1000 years, and I can’t see any harm in that what so ever. So I think it’s best to continue using this tradition, and forget all about cameras when it comes to children.
