FOREDRAG - HJÆLP!
1. Why have I chosen this subject?
There are three main reasons behind me chosen this subject. It was a big world event, a lot of wars were created like the one in Afghanistan and last but not least I find the subject very interesting to talk about.
2. September 11 attacks
Early on the morning of September 11, nineteen hijackers, hijacked 4 passenger airplanes. At 8:46 am the first airplane crashed into World Trade Center’s North Tower, followed by a 2nd airplane which hit the South Tower at 9:03 am. The third flight flew into the Pentagon at 9:37 am. The fourth flight crashed onto a field near Shanksville after the passengers on board the airplane engaged in a fight with the hijackers. During the hijacking of the airplanes, the hijackers used weapons to stab and kill aircraft pilots, flight attendants and passengers. All international civilian air traffic was banned from landing on US soil for three days.
3. What is World Trade Center?
The World Trade Center was a complex of seven buildings located in New York City, designed by Minoru Yamasaki. You can see the position of the buildings and which of them that got hit, on the illustration (på min disposition) right there. The two towers that got hit were also called the Twin towers because of their similarity. Both buildings collapsed within hours after impact with the airplanes.
Why did the buildings collapse?
In 2005 a fire safety investigation of the collapse of the twin towers had been conducted by NIST (Which stands for National Institute of standards and Technology). A lot of experts agreed on the fact that the twin towers actually did amazingly well, and the towers didn’t collapse on impact with the airplanes, but it was the fire caused by the impact that brought the towers down.
4. Casualties
There were a total of 2,995 deaths including the 19 hijackers. All the deaths in the attacks were civilians except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon.
Rescue and recovery
Firefighters and police personnel all over the country travelled to New York City to help look for survivors and clear the World Trade Center area, it took 8 months to clear the site.
Rebuilding the site
The site also called “Ground Zero” got rebuild right after the attacks to indicate that terrorism hasn’t won. They are planning to build among other a freedom tower and a Memorial Museum
5. George Bush and USA’s response
What is PENTTBOOM – (FBI)
Right after the attacks George Bush announced the war against terrorism and he created PENTTBOOM which is the largest criminal investigation in the United States history. Its name stands for Pentagon/Twin Towers/bombing investigation and involved over 7000 of FBI’s special agents.
Al Qaida and Bin Laden
FBI quickly determined that Al Qaida led by Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the attacks. The terror group Al Qaida was established in 1989 by Osama Bin Laden and means “the base”.
Motive behind the attacks
Osama Bin Laden has very specific pointed out his motives, he will continue attacking the United States until they leave the Middle East and stops their support of Israel.
Military operation
George Bush gave the Taliban government of Afghanistan an ultimatum to hand over Osama Bin Laden or face attack. The Taliban government refused, but offered to put Osama Bin Laden for a trial in an Islamic Court. The US said no the deal and invaded Afghanistan to overthrow Taliban and get Bin Laden.
Conspiracy theories
There are three main conspiracy theories. The first one is that the US government knew about the attacks, but did nothing to prevent them. The 2nd one is that Israel was behind the attacks and that all Jews stayed home that day. The third one claims that the buildings didn’t collapse because of the airplanes, but because of explosive located inside the buildings.
Jeg håber en eller anden ville tjekke det igennem og komme med nogle rettelser eller gode råd, da jeg har eksamen i morgen. Tak i forvejen!
