Summary of “The Next Contestant
A man named Walter Cartright, is participating in a television program called “The Big Challenge”. Walter is getting a challenge and if he is making the challenge, he is winning many expensive things.
The challenge is that he must call his ex - girlfriend, and try to get a date with her without telling her that it is a part of a television program. When Walter is getting in
contact with his ex - girlfriend (Catherine) and is presenting himself, Catherine don’t belive that it is him, but after Walter is reciting things, they have done together, she is beliving him. Then Walter is persuading Catherine to meet him in about an hour. They are hanging on and Walter is now thinking that he have to meet her, but the Master of ceremonies is telling him that its not necessary and one of his assistants will call Catherine and explain the whole situation.

contact with (his ex - girlfriend (Catherine)) her and (is presenting) introduces himself(,) Catherine (don’t) does not belive that it is him, but after Walter (is reciting) has mentioned things(,) they have done together(,) she (is beliving) believes him. (Then) Walter (is persuading) persuades Catherine to meet him in about an hour. They are hanging on???? and Walter (is) now thinks(ing) that he (have) is going to to meet her, but the Master of ceremonies (is telling) tells him that (its not) it will not be necessary, and one of his assistants (will) calls Catherine (and) to explain the whole situation to her.

Den korte huskeregel i forb. med udvidet tid er at man bruger udvidet tid ved
EN UAFSLUTTET HANDLING I ET AFGÆNSET TIDSRUM,
dvs. ved noget som er ved at foregå, - - -enten lige nu eller i sætningens tidsrum.
Der er nogen som "er/var ved at gøre noget" eller "er/var i færd med noget" eller "er/ var i gang med noget".
Forestil dig at nogen ringer og spørger hvad Peter laver. Så kan du svare f.eks. "He is washing the car " eller "He is having breakfast " (-nemlig lige nu mens vedkommende ringer).
De kan som sagt også være engang i fortriden "When Susan rang me yesterday I was cleaning the room" (og hun ringede midt i det hele)
Noget som sker altid eller normalt kommer ikke i udvidet tid.
F.eks. "The sun rises in the East" (det gør den nok altid) eller "John gets up at seven in the morning" (det gør han altid).
Det betyder at:
"What are you doing ?" betyder "hvad er du i færd med at lave?" mens "What do you do ? " betyder "Hvad laver du, dvs. Hvad er dit arbejde ?"
