’A Christmas Carol’ er højaktuel i en tid, hvor mange af os føler, at vi har svært ved følelsesmæssigt at håndtere de splittede familier. Julen er ikke kun lys, mad og gaver, men også præget af stress, dårlig samvittighed og en nagende tvivl om, hvorvidt man nu gøre det godt nok i forhold til børn, kærester, venner, forældre, mænd og koner. Er gaverne originale? Pynten smagfuld? Maden som vor mors?
Midt i kaos skal alt være så ægte, sandt og autentisk som muligt – og frem for alt skal man have hjertet med. Så måske var det meget nemmere at gøre som Scrooge – lade jul være jul og bare glæde sig til, at det atter bliver hverdag.
’A Christmas Carol’ er en klassiker af forfatteren, som skrev en række store romaner, bl.a. Oliver Twist (18-37-38) og Hard Times (1854). Charles Dickens (18-12-1870) oplevede som barn, hvad det ville sige at være fattig i victoriatidens England. Hans far sad på et tidspunkt i fængsel på grund af gæld.

’A Christmas Carol’ are highly relevant in a time, where many of us feel, that we have difficulties with emotionally handling the divided families. Christmas are not only candlelight, food and presents, but also influenced by stress, bad conscience and a grudging doubt of whether you are doing alright in comparison to kids, girl/boy-friends, friends, parents, husband and wifes. Is the presents original enough? The decoration tasty? The food like our mothers?
In the middle of mayhem all this have to be as real, genuine and authentically as possible – and besides all you have to have the heart along. So maybe it would be a lot easier to do as Scrooge – let Christmas be Christmas and just look forward to, that it again will be a weekday.

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) experienced as a child, what it meant to be poor in the Victorian time England. His father sad at a period in prison because of debt.
