er der muligvis nogle der har lyst til at rette denne stil igennem, da jeg er lidt i tvivl med selve grammatikken og stavelsen, da jeg ikke har stavekontrol på min computer...

Analysis of “Horseman!” by Roger Zelazny

Summery of the story:
The story is abort a strange and powerful horseman, who is searching for his companions because they have made an appointment. We hear a lot about his journey. In the beginning he comes to a village in where he speaks to the mayor of the village. The mayor ask him a lot of questions wich the Horsman answers, but the mayor is not able to inform the horseman about where his companions is, because he have not seen the. But finally he directs the horseman to the closest village. Even though the village is in a distance of two days travel, the horseman comes there instantly. His last words to the mayor was that he shoul look to the skies to night. When he arrives to the other village, and speeks to the mayor of this village, the mayor tells him that he have seen others like this horseman and that they wait for him at the top of the highest hill. At last a ship from earth settles upon the plain while the villagers is looking.

Discription of the horsemen:
We here about three horsemen. The first one, who also is the main character of the story, sounds as a very terrifying creature. He is as fast as the wind and he wears amour of silver coins stolen from the stars, and no one have seen his eyes because he wears a vizor. In the text we are told that when he stops even the time stops, which must mean that he is very powerful. He do also wear a sword and rides a horse. We do not hear a lot about the other three companions, other than one of them is black and another green, and the fact that they are waiting for the other horseman.

Setting of the story:
From reading the text, I am able to conclude that the story takes place in a past time, because we hear about oil lamps for instance, and the villages is so far from each other which is very unusual these times because of the big population. Furthermore it is a proper time to write about such things, because this is a time were people fear and believe in such supernatural things. The story takes place in villages and hilltops.

The purpose of the horsemen
By reading the story something from my time in primary school came to my mind. In the religion lessons, we learned that according to the Christian belief, there will come some horseman which will bring the doomsday. Each horse represent each catastrophe which will come to earth in the doomsday. Earthquake, thunder etc. By asking a priest I found out that this is written in the new testament in the chapter of “Johns revelation”. so the purpose of the horseman is to bring the doomsday for human being.

Symbols in the story
There are many symbols in the story, and among them is the Horsemans description of his sword. He tells the first mayor that it is a sword who eats flesh and drinks blood. This may be a symbol of a very bad period to come, where a sword is needed to punish the sinful i.e. the doomsday. Furthermore we hear about a falling star which grows to the size of a house hanging in the sky and exhaling the souls of suns, which probably makes star even bigger. This star could be a symbol of God who have started the apocalypse by taking the souls of everything, starting with the suns and moving towards the earth and the humans!

Jeg har kun lige skimmet begyndelsen, men jeg faldt over følgende:

The mayor ask = the mayor asks.
of questions wich = of questions which
he have = he has

Generelt vil jeg sige, at du skal huske i 3.person ental.

Kan ikke lige overskue at kigge på det hele, men her er lidt flere rettelser:

his companions /is/ (are)
His last words to the mayor (was) were
shoul=should
