Bend it like Beckham

Jesminder Bhamra:
- Also called Jess. She is an Indian girl who lives in Hounslow in England. She is a second generation immigrant, and her passion is football. She is living for football! She is wearing very sporty clothes, (knickers and a top) and she has her hair in a ponytail. She has been playing football ever since she was a little girl, and is not planning to stop! But her mother is seeing it from another perspective. Jess lives with her mother and father, Mr. And Mrs. Bhamra, and her older sister Pinky. Jess has this dream, to become a professional footballer, but again – her parents has other plans for her. They want her to finish High School, go to Collage and then later become a lawyer. And definitely teach her how to become a good and traditional Indian wife, for the Indian boys in the little “society” they have in England. Jess’ biggest idol is David Beckham, he is like a god for her! There is posters hanging all over her room, and she is talking to him every day. One day, as usual, she is going to the park to play football with some friends. In all secret, a girl called Jules is watching her play. She turns to Jess, and tells her that she is playing for the local girl football team, and she would like to see Jess next time for training. And then suddenly her life turned around! But her parents do still not want her to play football, so she lies and is playing for the local girl team in a long time without her parents permission. Jules and Jess has become best friends, and is unfortunately falling in love with the same guy, their coach, Joe. There is happening a lot of things and Jess learns to trust herself, and take all the chances that you can get in life!
Jules:
If Jules want something she is definitely going to get it! She is also into football, in fact, she started Hounslow Girl Football Team. She is a leader! She is very sporty dressed, not much make-up, short hair and 100% English.
Comparing:
Jules and Jess is much like each other, and have a lot of things in common. They both wear sporty clothes, not so muck make-up and football means everything to both of them! The only thing is that they don’t have the same religion and family, but that doesn’t matter, cause they have the same passion for football!
My own opinion: A very good book, kind of reflects to a “normal teenager” life, about love, family and other teen “problems” . You learn about a different culture and how to trust yourself and take some chances, sometimes you get lucky!
