Hvorfor?

Heroes Now and Then

Horatio Nelson is one of the personalities many see as a true English hero. But heroes are different in our time, at least if the media reflect the reality. Today it is sports stars and celebrities from the television, who are idolized as heroes and ___not as much as____ people, who are fighting for larger political causes.
It can be difficult to accept the new idols. The older generation, who is thinks back on the Second World War and the heroes, they remember from that time, (wonder) why a pop idol and a Robinsoncompetitor are almost worshipped by their grandchildren. Today’s media hero probably fights a lot more for his own immortality than the /nation’s/ salvation, and it is thought-provoking that the latest information about the Big Brother-competitors (are) that important that the public demands to see (them) on the /newspapers’/ front page. Money is also an important factor. If the investors think that the economy looks sensible they invest and their money thereby (help) create new heroes. Sport has for a long time been a field, which creates heroes, but with the big economical interests involved nowadays, a World Cup victory has become the direct way to hero status. The hometown prepares a hero’s welcome; spectators are cheering, and the family is interviewed.
But society does not care much about the fate of the heroes, when the medals have been presented. It can be difficult being a hero, when everybody forgets you quickly in the quantity of constantly changing news. Sudden and perhaps undeserved fame (are) no new invention, but the ___wide layers____ are probably more faithless today.
