Engelsk
* Augie Wren's christmas story
* The red line by Charles Higson
* The bride comes to yellow sky (western tale)
* The killers by Hemmingway
jeg har notater til alle de andre tekster, men jeg kan simpelthen ikke finde noget om de her.. jeg ville være meget taknemlig hvis der var nogen, som kunne hjælpe mig..
på forhånd mange tak

The Red Line
1.) The story takes place in London in the Underground Tube. It takes place in the early 1990’s. It has a serious feel to it. The situation is rather confusing though. Berto is lost in the Tubes & can’t find the way to Cathy.
2.)BERTO: He is the Italian guy that falls in love with Cathy when she goes to visit Italy. He goes to visit Cathy in London, & where he finds out that she has a boyfriend, & is in an ’open relationship’. While they are on the train, Cathy gets really mad at him & starts shouting at him & then just before she leaves the train, she swears at him. He doesnt realy speak English that well at all, & feels self-concious about speaking it, because the last time he did, he was laughed at. So even though he is lost in the Tubes, he doesnt want to ask for help. He feels that men shouldnt come across as being helpless.
THE NAMELESS GUY: In the very begining of the story, you et the idea that he is a perfectionist & thinks very highly of himself. He is very particular in the way he presents himself. For example, no bodily hair can be found anywhere on his body & he washes his hair twice a day, & makes sure that he dresses very smartly. He is being desciribed in the story as being a cherub. Delicate hands & feet. He doesn’t like change at all. He wants to be like his idol Bob Seger. He even perfects his dance moves for his weekly kareoke at The Brunswick.
A little into the story, you hear that The Brunswick will no longer have kareoke nights, & there will be no more Bob Seger. ’Dancing & black music’ will replace it. Because of the disappointment of change, while he is looking through the window of his appartment, he can see alot of ’stubble’ in the streets of London, & then decides to take matters into his own hands. He gets on the train, & starts describing Berto (who he just sees on the train) & how imperfect he is with his hairy chest & hairy hands & his dark skin & he can also ’hear’ the black music that he thinks Berto is listenig to (when he is infact listening to a tape to learn English).
He is very judging by nature, & is superficial. He sees himself as being perfect, & at the center of the world. But he turns out to be the opposite. The world is changing, & he cant cope with it any longer & decides to take matters into his own hands. He ends up killing Berto, by stabbing him with a kitchen knife that is attatched to his wrist & is hiding in a shopping bag.
DENISE: She is just in the train, described (by Berto) as bing a typical English girl with a fresh & pretty face. She is petrified of being raped, & reads a lot of magazines & things like that which tells her that the rape rate is rising. The first time she sees Berto, she finds him attractive, but because she is so scared of being raped, she tries her hardest not to make eye contact with him, because he could be a potential rapist. She says:”not all rapists are fat & ugly”. She also thinks that she is going mad.
3)THEMES & ANALYSIS
appearence vs reality:
The nameless guy is a fine example of this theme. He is described as being almost angelic, but as the story unfolds, you see that the man is not in anyway angelic, because he murders Berto.
Denise sees Berto as a threat because of his appearence, & is wondering when he is going to make his move& attack her. But in reality, he just wants to ask her for help to find his way. She mensions that the nameless guy looks like a child & would not be able to protect her if Berto were to attack.
The nameless guy sees Berto as being ”stubble” in the London society, and sees him in a light that is not like Berto. He thinks that Berto is listening to this ’black music’, because he doesn’t look as pure as he does.
Insecurity:
The nameless guy is very affraid of change & want the world to stay the same. He has his set routines & likes to keep things that way. As soon as he realises that his world is changing, he becomes a murderer.
Berto’s insecurity of speaking the English language (because Cathy’s boyfriend laughed at him) cost him his life. (you could also use ’pride’ as a theme in this case).
Because Berto is also in a country that he knows nothing about, he feels very insecure about things.
Perfection:
The nameless guy is a perfectionist. He has no body hair protruding from anywhere, his skin is soft,he has dainty feet & hands, and has crystal blue eyes. He likes to inspect himself for any form of inperfection.
Isolation:
Because of being in a big city, there are so many diffent classes of people with many personalities & intensions, and they are totally isolated from one another. This makes them lonely, but they do this also for protection.
4)THE LANGUAGE
in the begining, the story is very descriptive. It gives all the information needed to pictuire exactly what the characters look like & also what the places look like, & what the situstions feel like to the people.
the story is told form of a third person. in the begining, the story is very descriptive. It gives all the information needed to pictuire exactly what the characters look like & also what the places look like, & what the situstions feel like to the people. The story shifts from one person to another, each part of the story is divided sections with sub-headings. Also the sub-headings all have the names of stations along the route on which Berto is traveling…the black line.
SYMBOLS
The red line:
At the end of the story, when Berto is killed, he sees sa trickle of his own blood making a red line on the floor, & then only does he remember the way to Cathy. Ironically, he finds his way through his death, because if he hadn’t seen his blood drawing the line on the floor, it wouldn’t have triggered his memory.
LEITMOTIFS
The map:
Tha map that is always referred to is not a physical map, but rather a sign of no meaning or bearing (direction) in his life.
The cherub:
This is a sign of innocence.
5)PERSPECTIVE
The nameless guy can be realated to the main character in the story ”American Phsyco”. He is also a perfectionist & ends up killng people supposedly to perfect todays society.
This can also be related to ”streetlights” when the girl gets lost in the fog. The girl being Berto. Even though they come from totally different backgrounds, they both feel like outcasts of the city, & feel lost in society.
Håber det kan bruges...
