This study investigates the depressions biochemical affect in the brain and a synthesis of 1-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2-benzoefuran in the faculty of pharmaceutics and purification by column chromatography. The monoamine hypothesis of a depression was based on the reduction of the neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenalin and especially serotonin in the central nervous system. Pharmacists and Doctors have for years researched to find preparations, which have specifically influence on different diseases. There are several of preparations that psychoactive drug makes use of, and it is one of these preparations and its effect that were further described. In Farma were 1-phenyl-1,3-dihydro-2-benzoefuran synthesized, this synthesis consists of two stages of the citalopram synthesis and the profit on per cent was 16.35 %. Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor preparation, which is used for treatment of depression. This medicament has an antagonist effect, it increase the serotonin concentration in the serotoninergic synapses by blockading the reuptake transporter protein. A new research in progress shows that serotonin deficit in the serotoninergic synapses isn’t the ultimate description of depression, but have further a connection with the secretion of cortisol hormone.
