A crime story is characterise by it has a detective, a helper to the detective, a murder and sometimes is the police also involved in a crime story. We have some well-known detectives, which are Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple and Marlowe. These are popular detectives in the old kind of crime stories. The period for the old crime stories we have road about is in 1870 to the 1980. They are all intelligent, and there purpose is to solve a crime. We hear about Sherlock Holmes methods to solve his crimes in “The Cardboard Box”. He is a detective, who can read peoples mind, and he doesn’t work alone. He gets help from the police all though they aren’t so clever. The Sherlock Holmes crime stories represent the police bad and as unintelligent. When we compare “The Cardboard Box” with a modern crime, for instance “Mistænkt”, is the police in “Mistænkt” very important. We here about the detective Jane Tennison, who wants to solve a crime, but she can’t make it without the police. They are her helpers; all though she isn’t satisfied with how they are handle the situation. Jane Tennison has in the start no idea of who the murder is. Whereas (derimod) the detective in “The Affair at the Victory Ball”, Hercule Poirot starts to think of who the murder is before he begins to make observes. The story is written in 1923, so we can call it an old crime story. One of the important differences between the old crime and the modern crime is that, there isn’t some omniscient detective to solve the crime in the modern crime, which there can be in the old crime stories. For the detectives in the modern crime, is the crime itself just a puzzle. They are more realistic, and trusts to the evidence they get from their helper/helpers. We have (derimod) in the old crime stories, detectives, who believes in themselves, and is impertinent to the people around them. The detective Marlowe in “The Pencil” is one of the self-assured detectives we know. He lives in a ghetto, which has affected his attitude. In all the crime stories do the place the detective come from affects the way he/she behaves. A modern crime story “The Murderer”, is the main character Howard Carey also affected of his society. He ends to be with a prostituted, which his town is full of. The modern crime shows us a lot of how the society affects the people, and the society presents most badly. The issues in a modern crime are for example unfaithful, prostitution, marriage, a kidnap etc. All of the themes have an affect on the reader, and we can adopt an attitude to it (forholde os til det). In the old crime the issues could be fight for money, gangster fight, something there has happened earlier, which the detectives wants to solve etc. Julian Symons which is a modern crime author says that a crime story contains a lot from the reality, and it can criticize the society’s bad sides. The development of the crime is mostly the way the author writes. The modern crimes author takes problems from the society out, and makes a crime story about it. Instead in the old crime stories the authors thinks more about to make a story which fascinates people, and also to show the affect of the police. In 1829 was the police forces formed, and in the beginning people think that they were distrusted, so in the old crime the police plays a big role. The detective Miss Marple, is one of the detectives who has a logical mind, and she often embarrasses the local "professional" police by solving mysteries that have them stumped.

Unlike the old crime are some of the authors from the modern crime women, which also show us the quality between the sexes. In both kind of crime there is a deeper meaning, but I think that we can relate us more to the modern crime, because we at ourselves can see the problems in the society which is clearly appeared in the modern crime stories.
