When we walked in to the Tower of London the feeling of insignificant began to spread in our bodies. It felt peculiar to think of all the Kings and Queens that had stepped on this area, all the destinies which had been decided and all the bodies which had been tortured. The crown jewels seemed bombastic and unnecessary, as an example a coronation spoon which was covered in luxurious diamonds. As we stepped on to the moving pavement a screen whit the words “the spoon” were being held in front of us, which almost forced us to laugh.

The renaissance ideal seemed very far from our principles. Even though the materialistic way of living is still a huge part of London. Ever since the industrial revolution has places such as Harrods (famous for is snobbery and high quality products) been the main shopping target for many tourist and locals. An odd thing about Harrods and other kinds of supermarkets is that the price on vegetables and fruits is very high compared to the prices on unhealthy food such as chips and sweet. On top of that, almost every large shop has sweet placed beside the cue to the cash in the store. No wonder England is among countries like the United States of America when it comes to overweight. If you have to save money you are forced to choose the unhealthy snack over the healthy foodstuffs. And even more tempting is it to drop some chips into your basket, when you are bored in the long cue to the cashier, because you do not cheat, in a cue, in England or any other place for that matter.
We Danes have a lot to learn from the polite Englishmen which are often referred to as gentlemen. I believe that the word “sorry” or “excuse me” are probably the most used word in London, but only if the gentlemen are not placed in a sports bar.

One evening we went to see a football match. The fight was between Tottenham and a team which name was non-important. At this sports bar, in London, the only name you needed to know was “Tottenham” (pronounced with a lovely cockney accent). When you had that right you could behave exactly as you pleased, as long as you did not disturb the football-match, off course.
There were many other unwritten rules, on how to behave in England. As a matter of fact I believe that these rules should be written down, just so that the tourist like me could behave correctly compared to the English etiquette.

In Denmark, when you go to theatre you are most likely to wear your nicest clothes and to behave and to sit quietly. At William Shakespeare reconstructed theatre “the globe” the audience behave exactly as it was a football match. When the whether is sunny most people do even where a bassballcap, an item which would not do in a Danish theatre. Also it is not impolite to yell at the actor; actually you are expected to do precisely that, in order to really experience the play.

A few buildings away from “the globe” is “Tate gallery” a modem museum containing different forms of art. . “Tate” is open for every one to see. The museum includes both Monet and bricks formed in rectangle. For no money at all every person can experience art. Not just in the architecture of the city but also some of the biggest artist for free.
London is really a city of life and culture. There are so many different cultures and voices. a significant proof that we can all live peacefully together in a dynamic culturally different world.
