“Write a short essay in which you discuss whether parents should influence their children’s choice of partner.”
To Muslims it is natural for parents to decide for their children, whom they are, and whom they are not to be married to. Especially girls do not have anything to say in this matter. The parents are of the opinion that their choice of partner is for their child’s own good, even though it ought to be the person self. By choosing their partner, leaving their child out of influence, they take away their child’s free will. As the philosopher Immanuel Kant said: “everyone has a free will, and it cannot be taken away”. In the Muslim society, the free will is simply a utopia to girls. The purpose of the arranged marriages is not love, but predominantly a selfish act of the parents, even though they would never admit it. In this example the parents have full control of the choice of a partner for their child, and the free will simply does not exist.
In the Western Society we are lucky that arranged marriages are rare heard of. Arranged marriages primarily exist in specific religions, such as Islam.
Even though time has changed, members of the Royal Family have to be very careful of whom they choose to be their future partner. Not only is their parents’ accept important, but also the people of the country. Today they are more able to choose for themselves, not having to choose a royalty from another country, meaning a princess does not have to marry a prince, or a duke for that matter – the Danish and the Norwegian prince has proved that to the world.
A person in the teen-years, still dominated by hormones, has maybe not experienced enough to be able to choose the future partner at that early stage in their lives. People, who get married young, often end up getting divorced because they were not as ready to get married, as they thought they were.
Automatically I think in one way or another, parents tend to influence their child in making the “right” choice of partnership, even though they do not acknowledge it. They want the best to happen for their child, and if the possible partner might be a drug-addict, they would try to convince their daughter/son that he/she might not be the best choice.
I think the main criterion is, whether the person will be happy with the partner, because happiness is the key to a successful life.

The parents are of the opinion... --> Although children should make their on decisions on this matter, parents believe they should have a say in their children's choice of partner.
the purpose of the arranged marriages --> the purpose of arrange marriages
In this text --> In the text
if their child's.... --> if their child's partner turns out/proves to be...
probably would --> probably is not the best choice.
