Er der nogle grammatiske fejl i denne sektion?
That’s how the message sounded like, to the Soviet leader Nikita Khrusjtjov, during a dinner in Kiev with Ukrainian leaders in the afternoon, 4th October 1957.
Khrusjtjov left the room, to receive the call that was from Kazakhstan. When he soon after returned he told with a smile to his hosts that Sputnik 1 was sent off, and that everything was going after the plan.
>>We are ahead of the USA<< he said.
The participants at the meeting politely nodded, but apart from that they didn’t seem particular interested in the information. The news neither caused interest in the Soviet.
That’s what Khrusjtjov’s son Sergei tells BBC. Today he lives in the USA. At that time he was a young space travel engineer and with his father on the journey, where the historic news came in.
A race for survival
on the other hand, in the USA the news came with a shock, that made the Americans throw huge funds to the spacerace.
It was not because of the small Sputnik 1, which only weigh 84 kilo and not had contributed with much knowledge about the space when it fell down 3 months later. On that time, the Sovjet had already sent another Sputnik into the space, this time with the dog Laika on board, as the first being of the earth – to the space.
The fear is about the missile, a R-7 – that have brought Sputnik to the space.
It was an intercontinental ballistic missile (IBM), that the Sovjets had developed to send H-bombs to the USA. The USA now realized that it actually was possible. By this, the New York Times declared that the USA and with that the West, were in a “race for survival”.
USA-rocket was a flop.
The USA had for a long time worked on a similar project, by the name of Vanguard, under the leadership of the marine.

du har for mange kommaer. Husk, at der aldrig må være komma foran "that". Derudover skal du fjerne alle de kommaer du har sat foran "to". Resten gør ikke så meget.
