Dette haster måske en smule, det er nemlig til i morgen (tirsdag d. 27/09). Det er sætninger med Shall/Should, og jeg ville blive meget glad hvis nogen gad at læse mine sætninger igennem, rette dem og eventuelt komme med flere forslag til sætninger...
Opgaven:
Look at the sentences below and decide how many meanings the word "skal"/"skulle" have in each example. Then translate the various possible sentences into English.
Example: Han skal tage toget nu.
a. en ordre: He must take the train now.
b. noget han bør: He ought to take the train now.
c. nær fremtid: He is going to take the train now.
d. ifølge en aftale: He is going to takw the train now.
Sætningerne + mine oversættelser:
A: Nu skal du høre hvad jeg så på et skilt på British Museum: “Tasker skal afleveres ved skranken”
- Now you shall hear what I saw on a sign at the British Museum: “Bags have to be handed in at the desk.” Is that really necessary?
You have to hear what I saw on a sign at the British Museum: “Bags shall be handed in at the desk.” Should that be necessary?
B: Jeg skal til bageren nu; “skal du have noget med?”
- I’m going to the bakery now; “do you want something?”
- I have to go to the bakery now, “do you need anything?”
C: Ja, jeg skal have et franskbrød og nogle boller. Men skulle du ikke se at komme afsted? Klokken er snart halv seks.
- Yes, I shall have one white bread and some buns. But do you not need to get going? The clock is almost five thirty.
- Yes, I will have one white bread and some buns. But must you not get going? The clock is soon five thirty.
D: Han sagde det nok skulle gå, men hvad skal jeg dog gøre?
- He told me everything would be fine, but whatever shall I do?
- He said that everything was going to be fine, but whatever shall I do?
- He said that everything was going to be fine, but whatever am I to do?
E: Det skulle vel aldrig være din engelsklærer, der gav et så vagt svar?
- It could not be your English teacher, who gave you such a... answer?
- Could it possibly be your English teacher who gave you such a… answer?
F: Der skulle være flere mulige løsninger her på denne sætning.
- There should be more possibly solutions on this sentence.
- There is supposed to be more possibly solutions on this sentence.
G: Hvis du skulle løbe ind i Arthur, så hils fra mig. Jeg skal først møde ham på torsdag.
- If you were to run into Arthur, then tell him hello from me. I am not going to meet him until Thursday.
- If you should run into Arthur, then tell him I said hi. I am not to meet him until Thursday.
H: Du skal ikke bekymre dig om, hvad jeg skal sige til Arthur. Det skal jeg nok selv klare.
- No need to worry about what you are going to say to Arthur. I shall handle that myself.
- You do not have to worry about what you shall say to Arthur. I will handle that myself.
I: Der star i togplanen, at man skal skifte I Warwick for at komme til Stratford. Skulle det ikke være Leamington-on-Spa?
- It says it the timetable that you are supposed to switch in Warwick to get to Stratford. Should that not be Leamington-on-Spa?
J: “Du skal huske at rydde op på dit værelse, inden gæsterne kommer.” “Det skal du ikke blande dig i!”
- “You have to remember to clean your room before the guests arrive.” “That is none of your business!”
- “You must remember to clean your room before the guests arrive.” “That is not for you to interfere in!”
K: Hvis du har et dårlig, skulle du tage at gå til lægen.
- If you are not feeling well, then you should go to the doctor.
- If you are feeling sick, then you must to go to the doctor.
L: Er det rigtigt, at Frederik og Märtha Louise skal giftes i næste måned?
- Is it true that Frederik and Märtha Louise are getting married next month?
- Is it true that Frederik and Märtha Louise are supposed to be getting married next month?
M: Skal du altid fløjte den melodi? Du driver mig til vanvid.
- Do you have to whistle that melody all the time? You are driving me crazy.
- Must you whistle that melody all the time? You are driving me crazy.
N: Hvorfor hedder det “We shall overcome”? Skulle man ikke sig “We will overcome”?
- Why is it called “We shall overcome”? Should you not rather say “We will overcome?”
