30 percent of all US children are overweight or at risk for being too heavy. But why are all this children overwight?

A lot of foodchains has been opening for the last few years, and the USA’s population has changed their foodhabits. The new fast-food chains are only selling greasy food, and the population loves it. They can’t get enough of it and they eat and eat end eat.
Globally, there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them obese
Obesity and overweight pose a major risk for chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and certain forms of cancer.
Childhood obesity is already epidemic in some areas and on the rise in others. An estimated 22 million children under five are estimated to be overweight worldwide.

Healthexpert Joan Morrison says that the new facts are terrible. She is a specialist within her field, and her job is to analyse a typical American.

For the last two years I have worked with this. I think it is terrible, that the people in Amerika and rest of the world succumb to the new foodchains. What is so special with McDonalds and Burger King? I think it is because they have very low prices and they tempt the customers to buy more and more of the very greasy “food”.
It is quikley and very easy. Each McDonalds restaurant has even a drive-in.

In the 1970’s, McDonal’s did what no one had ever done before. They created a family restaurant. Here the attention was primarily focused on the children and this was never seen before. The plan was to attract children. McDonalds jused two things for this: Happy Meal with a toy and Playlands. These two facts combined, proved as a giant succes. McDonald’s created a restaurant that offered children everything that they could dream of. Toys, McDonald’s became much more than merely a restaurant, it became heaven for children.







The homeland for McDonald’s is USA. Here obesity is at its highest and the answer to why that is, could lie in the hands of the Happy Meal. The children had been brought up with the Happy Meal, and probably see it as good and regular food. I disagree with that, and I am pleased to read about sensible parents, who take their children to sandwich chains Sunset or Subway to eat. This is healthier, and teaches the children, at a young age, that fast food can be tasteful and healthy, at the same time. This will eventually amount in an increase, in the demand of healthy fast food, and a decrease in the demand on burgers, pizzas and so on, says Joan Morrison.
