How the nurse feels: B
Our main character in the short story “How a Nurse Fells”, is called Tess Powell and she is an unreliable narrator because the fact that she in an actress and switches from being the Nurse in the Shakespeare play and her true personality. Also the fact that Tess gets a crush on Tiger De Soto and makes an entire story about him and his family, even though she doesn’t know Tiger or his family at all, and her relationship with Tiger is based on one telephone call. The hard part for the reader is that they only get Tess’ point of view, and therefore we only know that she tells us.
She doesn’t understand really what is going on, but tries to anyway by creating her own fantasies from simple situations.
Since Tess doesn’t know Tiger she find him mysterious, and the rumours at school have given him a bad boy image, and that is something Tess seems too like to.
There isn’t a relationship between Tess and Tiger, but Tess tries to create one like I said before.
But the fact that Tess is a teenager and begins to be interested in the opposite sex, also makes her an unreliable narrator because teenagers are known for living in their own world they have created in their mind.
Tess chooses to fallow the rumour and not the truth, because she is not old enough to see that rumours aren’t all that smart. Rumours can give a person a bad image without the person is being bad. In other words: an unwanted image.
It should not take a death, to realise how childish you have been when you have accused a person for doing something he actually did not do.
As said earlier Tess is our main character. She is a teenager in high school, and is about 15 years old.
Tess is confused like most teenager, that is trying to find there place in the world.
You can see that Tess belongs to the upper-middle-class in line 96-97…” I will come back and take over Mother’s fabric store”… that fact that her mother owns a fabric store, says that her family diffidently doesn’t have money problems.
But I think that Tigers family belongs to the middle-class. Tiger is the same age as Tess. He is a misunderstood boy, who is only trying to live his life. He is one of the most important subordinate parts in this short story.
The theme in this story is how you judge a person.
You should not judge a person by the rumours you hear. But by the way the person acts, and you can’t judge a person without knowing them first.
