Tak på forhånd :o)
1. Compare the views of tourism expressed in text 2 with those of some of the other texts.
In the text “Backpackers hit the tourist trail” Sarah Hall tells us about that the old idea of backpackers do not match with the new idea of backpackers.
Nowadays the phenomenon of backpacking is been more popular and widespread so the usual backpacker places have today been crowded. So the backpackers today are not like they were then.
The most backpacker meccas are now filled up with coffee shops and these shops have boasting names like the laughing Buddha and Fighting Kangaroos names which can attract attention.
The backpackers have according to Heba Aziz immersed themselves in rap, hip hop, 1960s music, drugs and new sexual relationships.
And then there was a time where backpackers travelling to experience new cultures, “find themselves” or even save the world. They experimented with sex, drugs and rock’n roll they so called hippies.
Text 1 opposite text 2 very much, Don George has been in France and he tells about that he loves to be there. France has a great atmosphere and the people there are very nice. In text 2 the new backpacker culture is about that backpackers do not want to experience new culture, but in text 1 Don George loves to see things he also can see at home like the France restaurants, museums and so on. So I will say Don George belong to the minority which like to experience all the different cultures.
In text 3 we hear about Mark Moxon who has a friend. His friend has just bought a new house and this house has a bathroom filled up with peach-things. Mark does not want to end up with a bathroom like that so he decides to run away. In 33 month he travelling through Australia, Oceania and Southeast Asia searching for a new lifestyle and he also like to “find him selves” like the “old backpackers”
2. Comment of the use of symbols in one or more of the texts
Text 1
In the text Don George thought that he has to spend his whole life in a classroom that thought makes him sad, but he realise that a classroom does not have to be a “real” classroom it can be the world for ensample could it be, to be in France. A classroom symbolise here a place where you can learn something a Classroom does not have to be like we know them in schools.
Text 3
In the text Mark Moxon visits one of his friends. His friend has bought a new house where the bathroom is a completely “peach-bathroom” all the things in the bathroom is peach-things peach-coloured bath, peach toilet, peach tiles and so on. The peach symbolise here a very boring and monotonous life which is a life Mark Moxon not want to live.
3. Discuss who benefits from backpacker tourism.
Them who benefits from backpacker tourism is for the first all the persons who sell all the travelling kit for example rucksacks to all the backpackers and also the people behind all the coffee shops which we in text 2 hear about. The coffee shops make their names boast so they can lure the backpackers. The coffee shops have in other words the backpackers on the list over people on their target group.
But you can also say that the people who benefits from backpacking is the backpackers self like Mark Moxon do in text 3. Here Mark Moxon gets a change to find a new lifestyle and find him self and in that way he benefits from backpacking with all the experience he gets on his travelling.
And in the same way I could have benefits from backpacker tourism if I take on a backpacking travel. My benefits would probably be all my new experience the new people I meet, the cultural things I see and things like that.
