Before the Great October Socialist Revolution in 1917, the Tsarist Russia was a backward, medieval, and half barbarous developing country where the working class consisted of only four million people out of a total population of around 150 million. In addition, the country and the population was almost completely destroyed during the WWI and in the reaction of honor bloody civil war against the new regime. In the years after the revolution, there were widespread famine. Out of this, the planned economy created the world's second most powerful country with a huge industrial base and a high cultural and scientific level.

From 1913 (the peak in production before the war) to 1963, the total industrial output was 52 times greater (U.S.: 6 times and UK: nearly 2-fold), and labor productivity (which is the most important unit in this context) grew by 1310 % (U.S.: 332 % and UK: 73 %). After WWII, there was enormous progress - without the Marshall aid, which supported the much less progress in Europe. Growth in the Soviet Union was in these years above 10 %. From 1945-60, the steel production increased from 12.25 million to 65 million tonnes, oil production increased from 19.4 million to 148 million tonnes, and coal production increased from 149.3 million to 513 million tonnes. In the mid-eighties, the Soviet Union had overtaken most capitalist countries and was in many areas clearly number one.

Living standards experienced steady increases, and the majority had things like television, refrigerator, washing machine, etc. The rent was settled down for about 6 % of a monthly income, and the price of basics like bread was also established low. Until the 80s, the last price increase for bread, sugar, and most other foods was in 1955 and for meat and milk in 1962. Compare that with an inflation rate of 2600 % in 1993 after the introduction of capitalism.

This illustrates the fact that planning is thousand times more effective than chaos.
