Cyberbullying
Why did I choose this topic?
- I choose this topic, because I found cyberbullying very interesting, because it happens all the time and it’s a very common thing around teenagers, and it’s a hard thing to stop, because the internet is like a ‘’free space’’, where you can do, almost everything, would I say.
What is cyberbullying?
- Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology, which includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
- Young people are spending more time socializing online, and there is evidence that cyber-bullying among teens and preteens are increasing. Email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, picture messaging and text messaging (just to name a few) can be used to intimidate, threaten, harass, embarrass or isolate someone. In addition to setting boundaries regarding cell phone and internet use, parents can help prevent and address cyberbullying by becoming more technologically savvy themselves.
- Then there are different types of bullies and just to name two, there are masquerading and Anonymity. Masquerading is when bullies make themselves appear as someone they are not. – and anonymity is when the bully is anonymous.
What is the difference between bullying in real life and cyberbullying?
- Bullying in real life and cyberbullying is very different from each other as people first and foremost dare too say much more behind their computer screens, than they would do if they stood in front of the victim. – you will would even be completely anonymous. At the same time cyberbullying is over the Internet, where the bullying is constantly, in the sense that you might be bullied all the times of the day. Then people, who gets bullied in real life get a pause, when example, where the victim come home from school and can hide in the home until the following day, but in cyber bullying’s case the home is suddenly not safe anymore, because you get bullied constantly – therefore it’s a more constant thing and the pressure on the person on the victim is much bigger on the internet. But on the other hand, I think it’s easy to avoid cyberbullying, since you can just choose to turn off the computer and delete your user on website, you get bullied on.
It goes somewhere first, and gets really ‘’dangerous’’, when you combine the two forms of bullying as the victim will not get any rest at all and will be constantly bullied. There are also many victims that are committing suicide because of bullying in real life, but also over the Internet.
Why do people bully?
- There are a lot of reasons why some people bully. They may see it as a way of being popular, or making themselves look tough and in charge.
Some bullies do it to get attention, or to make other people afraid of them. Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying or bullies with low self-esteem, might denigrate others to feel better about themselves. They may be being bullied themselves.
Some bullies may not even understand how wrong their behavior is and how it makes the person being bullied feel.

At the same time, cyberbullying is on the Internet, where the bullying is constant. Meaning that perhaps, you are bullied all day where as people, who is bullied in real life gets a pause.
