Hej

Suffer the Little Children is an amusing sci-fi story written by Stephan Stephen King. The way the author expresses the story, gives the reader open space for imagining. The short story is about an old school teacher who faces uncommon difficulties.  The leading role Miss Sidley is obligated to deal with a class of children unlike any other. These children are characterized as ‘different’ in a bizarre abnormal way. Miss Sidley’s actions base are based on her increasing level of fear, as she act acts in ways she never thought she would be capable of doing. As her fear phobia grows so does do her ideas of getting rid of children, which eventually leads to murder.

Miss Sidley seem seems to be the ideal dedicated teacher, who is methodical when it comes to her job. She knows when to keep her students quit quiet(?) in class, but the interested twist is that Sidley is the one which who is suffering from a disturbing conduct and to whom who ends up surprising her colleagues in school when she intentionally kills 12 pupils. King describes her as a small woman, constantly suffering, a gimlet-eyes gimlet-eyed woman. He later mentions that she is in the process of getting old, and the word Miss indicates that she is unmarried.

Kings King has an interesting way of presenting his characters. P.1 l. 1  ‘Miss Sidley was her name, and teaching was her game’, this introduction is used twice throughout the story P. 8 l. 41Buddy Jenkins was his name, psychiatry was his game.’  When this sentence is read, we instantly know that his faith fate(?) will be the same as Miss Sidley's.

Robert is a student in Miss Sidley’s class. Miss Sidley calls on Robert to form a sentence with the word ‘tomorrow’. He replies ‘Tomorrow a bad thing will happen’. Miss Sidley is perturbed (disturbed?) by Robert’s answer and the reflection of her glasses show shows, that Robert transforms himself into something ‘different’. She immediately turns around facing the students and Robert is looking normal.

Suffer the Little Children lives op up to its expectations as to its genre horror. King’s story contains a plot twist and ironic elements. A specimen could be, the irony in the title. How it says ‘Suffer the Little Children’ when it’s the teacher [Miss Sidley] whom who is going through the wretchedness and the misery. Overall the characters are split into two groups, good and evil. The setting is well described and could be based on an actual place. It takes place in an elementary school, where children are occupied with one the same teacher all day.

King’s King conveys the theme; Insanity, what you don’t understand nor comprehend can be very harmful psychologically. Another theme that the author King uses with the help of litterateur literary tools, characterization and structure of the story is, possession of evil spirits and fear of Miss Sidley. Fear performs in two main aspects. 1) Miss Sidley fears P.4 l. 26They seemed to elongate, to flow like drip- ping tallow, taking on strange hunched shapes that made Miss Sidley cringe back against the porcelain washstands, her heart swelling in her chest.’ This use of description helps the reader get the same awareness or mindset of Miss Sidley and understand her reasons for getting alarmed and horrified. 2) P.1 l. 3 ‘Behind her, none of the children giggled or whispered […] They knew Miss Sidley's deadly instincts too well. Miss Sidley could always tell who was chewing gum at the back of the room, […] Like God, she seemed to know everything an at once.’ This characterization helps the reader get an idea of Miss Sidley’s being, right before she turned insane. And how much of a perfectionist and controlling person she is.

Possession of unknown evil demonic creatures could also be a theme. The change Robert makes when he transforms himself into something unknown. The reflection inside her glasses tells it all. P.8 l.3 'There are lots of us, though. Lots more than here.' This indicates that there are a lot more demonical spirits inside the other students.

As for genre the story is an intriguing work of fiction in my opinion. The characterization is phenomenal. He uses suspense to keep the reader occupied and interested. The author King gives us an illusion that the characters most probably could be real.
