Old Levi’s does not die – they just fade

The father of the jeans Levi Strauss was born in Bavaria in German but in 1853 he leaved to the USA to seek his fortune in the goldmines in California. With him he had brought a large amount of brown canvas and he soon realized that it was a safer and more comfortable kind of investment, to fit out the about 500 goldmine workers, who were in San Francisco at the time, than to wear oneself down in the mines
When the material was used up he thought of import the strong and durable cotton material which name is still denim – the name came from the French town Nimes – and about 1890 he created the patented Levi’s model, which still is the most popular namely 501 that only is made in California.
Everything seems that the old Levi’s slogan in the heading hold good. The jeans’ story starts with the original work clothing where the demand was so big in the late 30’s that they had to impose controls so it mainly was people occupied in the American war industry there had the opportunity to get oneself Levi’s.
But it was Hollywood that was the occasion to that development that means that the firm today has a yearly trade at about 26 billions. First thanks to the western genre’s cowboy heroes and after that stars like Marlon Brando and James Dean in the 50’s made the clothing synonymous with social rebellion and antiplainess. It is impossible to imagine the later decade’s rock singers and movie stars without jeans as an important part of their image and in the whole period have Levi’s and the other brands signalled freedom and a relaxed relationship to norms. Only few people have apparently seen any contrast between going around and look like everyone else and at the same time demonstrate independence and individualism by wearing the newest – or oldest – Levi’s model.

Du oversætter generelt alt for direkte.
