The boycott of the busses in Montgomery
Rosa L. Parks was 40-years-old when she one day in 1955 sat down in the back of a bus in
Montgomery, on her way home from a hard days work as a machinist in one of Alabama’s textile factories. At the next bus stop, a white man came down through the aisle of the bus that was filled with travellers. The local laws back then - in 1955 - required not just that the blacks should sit in the back of the bus, but also that a Negro should get up, if a white demanded the seat.
