Hej allesammen.
Abstract:
Over 200 millions of people are infected by the terrible parasite Schistosoma, and this number keeps growing. The lack of information combined with the bad hygiene and the changes in the tropics, caused by humans, are only making the life easier living for the parasite. This study investigates the lifecycle of the parasite, how it develops from being a tiny egg in the freshwater to the flatworm that causes so much trouble in the human body. To obtain the fully understanding of the cycle and how it is possible for the parasite to survive in it’s ever so changing surroundings; an experiment is made to scientifically base the arguments. After doing so, it becomes much easier to dig deeper down in the investigation of the parasite’s sneaky way to adjust. It turns up that the parasite is capable of changing its outer tegument, and takes up some of the most important human antigens (proteins), which the immune system usually uses to distinguish between self and foreign. Taking this one step further, examining the antigens created by different kinds of protein with special structures, makes one become aware of the highly detailed detection system the human body has, which the parasite is obviously capable of cheating.
So when the human body is unable to protect itself and defeat the parasite without help, we have to prevent it from being attacked from the outside and make sure that the infected bodies can be treated. This is one of the reasons why we have to keep on researching in the future.
På forhånd tak
