1. Skønt Shirley kun er 14 år, må hun arbejde hårdt.
2. En fjortenårig pige skulle ikke have så mange pligter.
3. En pige på 14 må være gammel nok til at passe sin lillesøster.
4. Børnene må kun svømme i bassinet, hvis der er en voksen til stede.
5. Vi må hellere spørge om lov, før vi går ned til floden.
6. Børnene spørger, om de må lege nede ved floden, men deres mor synes, det er for farligt.
7. Selv om min søster, Jill, var velkvalificeret, kunne hun ikke få et job på det lokale hospital, så hun rejste til Skotland for at få arbejde som sygeplejerske.
8. Oversygeplejesken er så striks, at Jill og de andre sygeplejersker sommetider føler, at de ligeså godt kunne have gået ind i hæren.
9. De fleste finder moderne poesi svær at forså, men det er blot et spørgsmål om at kunne læse mellem linierne.
10. Det kan måske interessere dig at vide, at disse digte er skrevet i 1944.
11. Da jeg var barn, tog vi engang til havet for at lede efter rav. Jeg kunne ikke se noget rav, men så viste min far mig, hvor jeg skulle lede.
12. Man skal være meget heldig for at finde et godt stykke rav.
13. Jeg står op hver morgen klo.6, fordi jeg skal være på arbejde klokken 8.

4. The children must only swim in the swimming pool, if an adult is present.
5. We better ask for permission, before we go down to the river.
6. The children ask, if they may play down by the river, but their mother thinks, it is too dangerous.
7. Even though my sister, Jill, was well qualified, she could not get a job at the local hospital, so she travelled to Scotland to get work as a nurse.
8. The ward is so strict, that Jill and the other Nurses sometimes feel, that they might as well could have joined the army.
9. The majority/most think modern poetry is difficult to understand, but it is just a question about reading between the lines.
10. It might be in your interest to know, that this poem has been written in 1944.
11. When I was a child, we once went to the ocean to look for amber. I could not see any amber, but then my father showed me where I should look.
12. You have to be lucky to find a good piece of amber.
13. I get up every morning 6 o’clock, because I have to be at work 8 o’clock.
14. The sultan of Brunei is said to be the richest man in the world.
15. She wants him to play in the garden.
16. Why do jokes always have to be so stupid?
