The autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system is affected, when we become vulnerable to pressures and react with stress. The acute stress response, eustress, is a positive adaptation that activates the sympathetic autonomic nervous system. The body put on alert, both physiologically and neurologically, so we are able to react quickly, effectively and appropriately. The chronic stress response, distress, is a subsequent negative adjustments, which can have serious effects on health. This activates the endocrine, hormonal, system of long-term stress is not functioning correctly, but rather destructive to the body and psyche. This is understandable, since the endocrine system is one of the body's largest communications and regulatory systems, that affect other organs and systems in large scale. Therefore it is said, that chronic stress has a pathological effect, and helps the development of other serious diseases.
