Hjælp til engelsk

29. november 2010 af smilme (Slettet) - Niveau: B-niveau

Hej.

There were a number of racial laws in the period 1910 to 1948, but it was only after 1948 that the repression was organized. Strijden, who later became prime minister, said: "Europeans must stand firm and continue to be master in South Africa. If we abandon the idea of a master race and allow non-Europeans to vote and the same development opportunities as us, then how will Europeans be able to continue to reign? ". It was Hendrik Verwoerd, who was assigned responsibility for the new racial laws.
They included a ban on all mixed marriages, which were isolated residential areas for each racial group in cities; the requirement for a passport for all Africans, the universities were closed to Africans who were racial segregation in schools, unions, cinemas, restaurants etc.
It was the dream of separate development - apartheid - which came true. The black belonged in sanctuaries - "bantustans" - and had only set foot on the "white" land to work for white people.

 En lille rettelse:

Husk  et komma mellem "Africans"  og "who were".

Husk også "the fact that"   foran  "universities were closed to Africans"

The resistance
The new racial laws meant a turning point for the African political movement in South Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) had new and more radical leaders, and it turned into a mass movement. In the 1950´s,there was given the signal for mass demonstrations against a series of racial laws: The Africans sat on the white peoples benches, walked into the white stores, etc during a peaceful demonstration on 21 March 1960 in Sharpeville police opened fire into the crowd, and killed 69 Africans, and hurted 178, shortly after the Congress Party was banned.
Nationalist government´s responses to these actions were a series of laws gradually transformed South Africa into a police state with severe punishments for disobedience and ability to imprison anyone indefinitely.
Social unrest and opposition to the government forced the introduction of boernes language. Afrikaans, in schools was led in 1976, to unrest in the district of Soweto in Johannesburg, where 400 were killed.
The modern South Africa is characterized by a growing tension between population groups.

In 1976 the forced introduction in schools of Afrikaans, the Boer language,  led to unrest in Soweto, a Johannesburg district, and 400 people lost their lives.

Sætningen  " and (ability) the power  to imprison anyone indefinitely."   bør nok laves om til :

"and possible imprisonment for an unlimited period of time."
