In the video clip, we are presented to the 16-year-old boy, Cameron Sandler, who admits to being addict-ed to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft (WoW). The Australian news show “A Current Affair” (ACA) has made a story about the boy and his issue, as well as what impact video games have on teenagers.
WoW is an online game, which allegedly has an active subscription player base well above four million worldwide. Cameron explains that he is in fact addicted to the game, but he could walk away from the game whenever he sought fit. He sees his online friends equivalent to real life friends, as if they had met in real life. Moreover, he spends the majority of his time playing on his computer and some sessions can even span up to 16 hours. Additionally, Cameron has picked up nasty habits regarding violent behavior and a vulgar vocabulary that avowedly emanated from WoW.
The reporter, Ben Fordham, says that experts have stated that the fastest growing illness is technology addiction. Furthermore the psychologist in the video, believe that internet addiction is a serious problem and she also thinks that if nothing is done, there will be a lot more cases just like Cameron.
